Top 15 Live-Action Comic Book TV Shows

There have been a lot of different TV shows in the superhero/comic book world. Some have been outstanding and memorable, and others have been largely forgettable.

We did initially discuss the top 10 but it was too difficult to truly cement them so we opted for the top 15. Please note, these are in no particular order.

1. Smallville

The one to start it all. It’s fair to say a superhero show that received 10 seasons is great. I binge-watched this series. I loved it. Seeing the early days of Clark the movies only truly mention a tiny bit was simply amazing, seeing Clark deal with his school life, growing into this adult, and becoming the man of steel was simply great.

2. The Mandalorian

It’s very easy to see why The Mandalorian is on here. It was commented by a lot of people that this show was carrying the entire franchise on its back. I agree with those comments as well. Although season 3 was slower than the first 2 seasons, it was still incredibly entertaining. This will be a show I could watch over and over again and never get bored.

3. Daredevil

I don’t think anyone expected the Daredevil series on Netflix to be received how it did. No one expected it to be this catalyst that is still talked about to this day, having those characters return in the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline speaks volumes.

4. The Punisher

The Punisher debuted in season 2 of Daredevil and immediately grabbed the fan’s attention, love, and affection. Jon Bernthal was cast and coming off the The Walking Dead hype he delivered such raw emotion to the character of Frank Castle. The first season of The Punisher series still hits hard every time I watch it.

5. WandaVision

WandaVision was the show that began the Disney+ exclusive shows in the MCU. It did it very well. People often overlook WandaVision but it set up Doctor Strange’s second film in a spectacular manner. It was a show that gave us a deeper look into Wanda and her abilities. We’ve never had this in detail in the previous movies before. I often don’t think shows are necessary to move forward in the MCU but this one was.

6. The Falcon & The Winter Soldier

Granted, this only had 1 season with 6 episodes but it was always known it was going to be a limited-time series that would lead into a movie. The show did a great job at doing so. The only thing that lets this show down is the fact it’s had very little engagement since then. The introduction of the US Agent and the dynamic relationship between Bucky and Sam was brilliant and the overall story. It was our show of the year when it came out so it deserves a mention.

7. The Boys

Prime deserves all of the credit in the world for how they’ve handled this show. It’s incredible. The fact they’ve managed to spin the world of superheroes upside down in R-rated fashion is something special. This is a universe that has continued to grow with a spin-off and can continue to grow into untapped potential.

8. Gotham

A show that got better and very rarely had boring moments. Gotham had an interesting spin as it featured Jim Gordon as the main protagonist with younger villains from Batman’s Rogue Gallery. It slowly but surely led to the birth of Batman and it was so well done with how they went through it all. The entire final season was like a huge movie. I’ve watched the entire show 3 times over and preparing for a 4th at some point this year.

9. Ahsoka

Ahsoka’s first season was fantastic. It had everything that I wanted. It was a continuation of Rebels. Having Dave Filoni deliver such great, emotional, action-packed moments within the show was fantastic. Not to mention having Thrawn, undead Stormtroopers, Ezra, the Night Sisters, and Dathomir all in the season was insane.

10. Loki

Loki is arguably one of the best projects that has ever come from the Marvel universe. Loki was truly something special. Seeing his growth, personality change, the range of emotions change for the best in Loki was something great. This is what allowed him to truly become a god.

11. Luke Cage

I personally believe the Luke Cage series gets a hard rep. I still enjoy it to this day. It wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I honestly loved all the aspects of the show from the villains to the hero, his complex backstory, and how even though there was a war on, both sides knew that the barber shop was a safe zone.

12. Arrow

Right, bear with me here. Arrow got ultimately boring after the 3rd season with spells of greatness afterward but for me, the first 3 seasons were some of the best television in history. I loved everything about those seasons and this is a show that lives close to my heart as it effectively saved my life. I became a hardcore fan of superheroes because of this show and that’s why it deserves to be on this list. I understand this will be a grey area for some but after all, this is our own opinion on this list.

13. The Flash

The Flash might have lost some viewers towards the end but I stuck around. I saw the highs and lows that the show had and honestly, I would do it again. Grant Gustin’s portrayal of Barry Allen is the most true performance to date. I love that show.

14. Superman & Lois

Superman & Lois became a bit of a letdown in season 3 but was still an emotional season that tackled Lois suffering from breast cancer, it’s because of that as well it deserves credit. However, the first 2 seasons were fantastic and so damn entertaining. I loved the spin on Superman’s character as we get an older Superman who has teenage twin boys with Lois. I never thought we’d get Superman on the smaller screen but Tyler Hoechlin smashes the role every single time.

15. Peacemaker

I honestly only watched this show because I caught Covid and I had some time off work. I’m somewhat thankful I did. What a show. What a cast. What a story. What a damn entertaining piece of television. James Gunn has always been a phenomenal director but to take a character like Peacemaker who’s fairly unknown to the casual fans, and to make him that interesting is a feat in of itself. Bravo.
