Why Fallout 5 Should Have Been Before Starfield

Starfield was a good game. I don’t doubt that. I pumped around 100 hours into the game before hitting a wall and had no will to continue.

The thing is, I started Starfield in December and stopped playing very early on in January. I haven’t wanted to go back to the game since then. I do not doubt in my mind that I probably never will either despite the enjoyable experience I had.

Fallout games just hit differently. It’s quite literally as simple as that.

The world of Fallout has been building since 1997 with the very first Fallout game. We’ve had 3 further main titles, including spin-offs like 76 and New Vegas.

We’ve had time to adapt to Bethesda’s incredible and immersive world. While I get the need for something different in Starfield, I didn’t think it was a necessary move. Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5 would’ve been the much better options.

I don’t care for a Starfield 2 as much as I do for a Fallout 5, that’s always been the case. Fallout 4 remains my all-time favorite game and it’s made me realize how deeply I love this franchise with the next-gen update that’s just came out.

Starfield will never live up to what Bethesda has created with the Fallout series. They even managed to create a show that captivated interest all over the world. The games are selling like hotcakes right now. More players are playing the games than they have in years, I’m included in there as well.

I think Starfield let itself down by becoming a day 1 Xbox Games Pass game. Great for the players? Absolutely. Good for business? No.

Bethesda is a monster within the gaming world. Granted, 76 wasn’t the best but you have to consider what they’ve done. Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Oblivion, and Skyrim as well. There are others but these are mainstays that have been successful because of cross-platform and created more fans around the world.

Starfield isn’t a game that’s mentioned often. To be honest, I haven’t heard much about it for a while now. Fallout 5 is always in the conversation somewhere and deservingly so.

Elder Scrolls 6 is likely to be the next game. I’m okay with that as I was a huge fan of Skyrim. I just think Fallout 5 should’ve had the attention first and then Elder Scrolls 6. They also need to ensure these games are cross-platform. This is coming from someone who owns both. I always stand by that if a game series is cross-platform and then the studio is bought out, any future titles should remain the same except newly created games like Starfield. Although I think Starfield remaining an exclusive hurt it more in the long run because of how poorly Xbox units have sold.

I hope that the success of the series urges the executives to maybe consider a different route. I think if this series was released alongside a Fallout 5 game, the impact would have been astronomical.
