Why I Would Love A Free Guy Sequel

As an avid gamer, Free Guy is a film I very much enjoyed. I watched it again tonight, and it got me thinking about a sequel.

Understandably, the film did end in a satisfying way. Ryan Reynolds has also confirmed the same. We do know there is talk that a sequel is being discussed, although nothing is concrete at the time of writing this article.

Free Guy tried something different, and for me, it worked. It centres around an NPC doing the same things over and over again, but becomes sentient in the game as its code develops on its own. The code was initially being used for another game, but was stolen in the process.

Guy is the main character in the film, but in the game, he’s an ordinary NPC you’d probably pay no attention to. It’s similar to when we play Grand Theft Auto 5. We never really acknowledge the NPCs that don’t have a lot of bearing. Imagine if the same thing happened in GTA? It’s an interesting concept.

There are a number of ideas that could happen within a sequel. We could have malware installed. The code is being sold. Different games are being made off the back of it. Whatever this would look like, I’d still love to see a sequel.

The dynamic in the first movie created so many interesting avenues, not just focused on Guy himself.

I’d love to see the fallout for Antwan. What Millie and Keys managed to do after everything went viral. I’d love to see how the general public reacted to this after. Did the game continue to be a success, or did interest fade after a while?

The thing is, when it comes to these types of stories, you can go in any direction with them. It’s unique. It even did relatively well for the type of movie it is at the box office. It would be a shame not to further enhance this brilliantly original film, something we don’t see too often in today’s age.

What do you think? Would you love to see a sequel to Free Guy? Let me know down in the comments below.
