Before we get into this, this isn’t a Tyler vs Henry article, it’s not even a comparison. I love them both, and Henry Cavill is an amazing Superman nonetheless, but Tyler for me is everything.
The CW brought out their entry earlier this year with Superman & Lois, and honestly, I was not expecting much because The CW does have a bad habit of running amazing characters into the ground.
However, the showrunners and writing team have done an exceptional job in bringing a version and timeline of Superman that we have never seen before to life.
Everything from the background, the actors, the suits, the story, the aspects of everything you can tell from a million miles away that it is done with care, and one of the people that stands out more than anything is Hoechlin.
He doesn’t have the typical Superman look about him, but that’s what I love more than anything. He has obviously the same characteristics the character is immensely popular for having, but in the show, we’re seeing more Clark Kent than we ever have done before.
But even then, even after that, we’re seeing Clark as a father and husband to Lois on top of being Superman. You would usually think the show would struggle to keep all of that juggled into one, the same way Arrow struggled with Oliver and his son, William. Superman & Lois doesn’t.
Already in the first season, we’ve seen 3 different suits. The original underpants one, the black one, and the one he runs regularly. Every single suit we’ve seen so far has been perfect. Truly perfect.
Tyler portrays every aspect of Superman’s origin, traits, and character down to the T. We’ve seen him become angry and remaining in control, we’ve seen him be loving, be firm and assertive, and many others.
And let’s not get started on the actual fights we’ve seen of Superman thus far, it’s just incredible.
I truly believe that within live-action, Hoechlin is the best Superman we’ve had. I understand this may be an unpopular opinion, and it is just that – an opinion. But Tyler has made me fall in love with the Superman character, and so far, no actor has managed to do that for me.
So, huge props to Tyler Hoechlin and I hope The CW knows that they have a superstar here, and I really hope the show is here to stay for a few more years yet.
