Why I Can’t Wait for Fallout Season 2

We’re a little over 2 weeks away from season 2 premiering exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. As far as we’re aware, Prime will release the episodes weekly, one by one. There won’t be any 3-episode drops for the first batch, which is a shame.

Regardless of that, I can’t wait for the second season. The latest trailer came out 2 weeks ago, and it further enhances how great the series looks so far. You can see the trailer below:

The first season has already done a solid job in bringing a video game to life with a completely fresh story and making it work.

It felt unique, but it felt familiar all at the same time. That’s what makes Fallout so special. It’s a franchise that, when they throw a Vault at you or a Nuka Cola bottle, you instantly feel this connection to the screen.

Season 1 got it spot on. The aesthetics of the world, the vault, how great the Power Armor looked, and the Brotherhood’s presentation. There is also something we never truly got to witness before, and that’s the world BEFORE the bombs dropped. Fallout 4 covered this ever so slightly. We got to see this in a better light, that’s what makes season 1 so S.P.E.C.I.A.L. for me.

Judging by the clips we’ve seen from the second season and the trailers, it looks like they’re not letting up anymore. There are further references to the games. The Power Fist, Deathclaws, New Vegas, Mr. House, Kings, and so much more.

They could go one step further. Let’s break down the timeline a touch:

  • Fallout: New Vegas – 2281
  • Fallout 4 – 2287
  • The TV show – 2296

The show is set after the events of both games. This technically means the showrunners need to especially pick an ending from New Vegas and make it canon. They could do the same for Fallout 4.

The Institute and its Synths were everything by the time the Sole Survivor got out of Vault 111. I also firmly believe the technology we saw during the season 1 finale could very well belong to the Institute, simply because the Institute was around less than a decade before the time that the show is set.

It would be brilliant to finally get a reference to one or more of our protagonists. After all, they were pinnacle in setting the future of the wastelands in their respective games.

I’m of course speculating. There is a lot to be excited about. 15 days. That’s it. That’s all that is left to wait before the first episode launches. It’s going to feel like 2015 all over again, going to the midnight launch to get Fallout 4.
