What I Liked

1. Quite an interesting start. Alice forces her way into Jade’s office whilst tearing apart the security. She manages to find the Joker’s joy buzzer and instantly uses it on herself. I’m intrigued to see where this would have gone with Alice having a level of empathy. She manages to even get all of her charges overturned in court.

2. Marquis continues to be unpredictable. As Alice finds Kiki, she puts a knife to her throat searching for the buzzer. It’s at this point Marquis walks in and straight-up kills Kiki with a gunshot to the chest. He then proceeds to tell Alice how much he admires her work. He is proving why he’s actually a very good Joker.

3. Further fuelling the unpredictability, he manages to get into the Black Glove society, putting robes over their heads with them tied up, including his own mother and Jim Gordon’s ex-wife. To begin, he brutally murders Barbara by using a concoction of every single drug she gave her son all in one. He’s picking them off by using a wheel that he spins, he’s so sadistic it’s unreal.

4. I’m surprised we actually got the Joker this episode. We don’t fully see his face but we get the flashback from Marquis’ encounter with the Joker where he was hit with the buzzer. The Joker genuinely seemed good as well, he had the laugh nailed. This could set something up for future episodes.

5. I do feel for Alice a lot here. She’s really trying to help herself with the buzzer. I’m dying to see her use it, I do what to see where the show would go if Alice would have empathy again. However, the fight between her and Sophie was well done, including Batwing looking class as always.

6. Ryan and Sophie’s relationships grow further in this episode. Easily something that can only make the show better. I’d rather see this happen than them constantly be at each other’s throat because that seriously got boring after a while.

7. Marquis now has access to the Batcave after Alice gave it up to him in trade for the buzzer. I can only imagine the chaos he’s about to cause now he has all of that advanced technology. Roll on to the next episode!

What I Disliked

1. So, like number 1 didn’t actually happen. Alice falls apart when she realizes it’s just a dream. I couldn’t have hated that more. I really kind of liked the idea of a reformed Beth. Plus, any show that does this type of “twist” is an instant dislike.

2. I don’t like the fact Alice is back in Arkham. I feel like this takes away so much development from the character when she’s been able to grow so much over the last season. I really hope moving forward they can undo this episode with her fallback and move forward again.

Favourite Moment

We get the Joker vs Batwoman. Ryan does initially get the upper hand until a conversation pursues about how they had it rougher than each other. The best moment comes when Jada steps in for Ryan, something I didn’t think I would see. I’m enjoying their relationship growing as the episodes go on.

Standout Character

Marquis flawlessly takes the standout again. He’s proving himself time and time again why he’s a fantastic Joker. I had my doubts originally but this was a huge episode for him. He was easily the most entertaining part of this episode.

Verdict

Overall the episode was impressive. Batwoman continues to grow as a series however, dialing back Alice’s character after so much development was a blow to this episode as it was nearly close to perfection. The Joker continues to be one of the best villains in the Arrowverse to date.
