What I Liked
1. Heather is on the stand; thankfully, Matt arrives just in time, and of course, he’s super nonchalant about the whole thing. He’s immediately objecting before he’s even hobbled to his seat. I honestly love him.
2. Bullseye shows up to take out the AVTF guarding the courthouse. It’s as spectacular as it always is when he gets going. He was literally trick-shotting knives because he could. He looked damn good doing it as well.
3. This is a small like on the list here. After Matt presents further evidence, the judges demand to see the lawyers in their chambers. As Matt is there, Fisk is still sitting on the witness stand. He whispers to Matt, knowing full well he’d hear it. I thought this was such a clever move from Fisk, knowing Matt would hear him.
4. Matt has his Iron Man moment. He publicly tells the court he is Daredevil, then follows up with a neat trick to prove it. I’m genuinely shell-shocked at this. I saw the clip from Marvel and thought to myself. There is no way they would do that. They did!! Fantastic. The rest of what follows is an absolute masterpiece of storytelling.
5. As everyone tries to leave the court, Matt and Fisk go face to face. Powell asks for the shot to be taken, but Bullseye has already taken point. He has the sniper. Matt hears Powell call for it, havoc breaks, and Buck takes one to the abdomen from Bullseye. It wouldn’t be a finale without some chaotic action; I love it.
6. Fisk goes on camera to state the city is under siege. He’s effectively calling for a war. BB then outs herself as the one making the Fisk videos that we saw earlier in the season. The war is brewing, and it’s ready. The city picks its side. Let’s go!
7. Even the AFTV is breaking down. Powell orders Cole to shoot the group after the young White Tiger shows up. Cole isn’t happy about what went down with Hector. He then smashes Powell in the face with his, indicating a further turn. This episode keeps getting better and better.
8. It’s not the showdown you think it is. As Fisk stands at the top of the stairs, claiming he still fights for the people, the protestors storm up. Jessica Jones and Daredevil try so hard to stop it, but even Fisk gets overwhelmed. They got him down to the floor and put a beating on him. Daredevil does manage to separate them and provides a speech to Fisk claiming it’s over for them both. Fisk does agree to the terms, which is surprising considering how many people he’s just killed…
9. LUKE CAGE!!!!
10. The shows setting up season 3 perfectly. Heather has the Muse mask. Matt’s in prison with a lot of the AVTF team, including Cole and Powell. Bullseye is on a plane with Mr. Charles. I cannot wait for the next season.
What I Disliked
Nothing to report this week.
Favorite Moment
We’re getting a hallway scene with Daredevil and Jessica Jones. We’re getting Fisk lose control of the protestors who’ve stormed the courthouse; some of the injuries he’s inflicting are brutal; he’s quite literally going berserk. It’s tough to keep up from a writer’s perspective; there’s so much going on at once. This is incredible. The entire segment on both angles is so damn entertaining. We even got White Tiger finally in the fight. It all leads into the showdown.
Standout Character
So many characters stood out in the finale, but none stood out more than the man himself, Daredevil. He was beyond fantastic here. From the Iron Man moment, to a hallway scene, to standing across from Fisk and doing the right thing. Charlie Cox has ALWAYS been Daredevil, but this episode has truly, beyond any reasonable doubt, secured this. Charlie to Daredevil is literally what Chris Hemsworth is to Thor.
Verdict
If I could rate an episode 11/10, this would be it. The finale had everything. The storytelling was exceptional. The action sequences were very Daredevil-esque. The cameo. The endings. The entire episode was perfection and perhaps the best Daredevil episode to date. I can’t wait to see what they do with the third season, it’s going to be one hell of a ride.
