Gen V “Hell Week” Review

Season 2 Episode 7 – A Reminder from the Office of Student Conduct: God U strictly prohibits hazing. Students should never be called demeaning names, forced to wear humiliating clothes, or treated like any animal. If you see something, say something! No one will call you a narc.

What I Liked

1. Polarity has a seizure after Marie and Cate return to God-U. Marie manages to heal him to the point that his tremors actually stop. I like how far we’re seeing Marie’s powers go, to the point she can genuinely heal people.

2. Polarity asks Marie to heal Cate so she can read every mind on the campus to find Godolkin. Marie is obviously hesitant despite efforts from Cate asking her to do the same. Polarity in this conversation, I feel like he’s right. Cate’s done some despicable things, but under the influence of Vought. It makes sense. If Cate’s truly turned a corner, her powers would be incredibly useful. I hope it’s not all an entire ploy on her part.

3. Polarity goes toe to toe with Ciper. I got goosebumps. As Cipher attempts to find Marie, Polarity shuts the door. As the rest of the group walk in, Greg, Sam, and Jordan all walk behind Polarity to stand alongside him, whilst the rest look for Marie. This entire sequence was fantastic!

4. “Have you ever played Whack-a-Mole?” Sam explains before delivering a nearly knockout blow to Polarity. It was always going to go one way in this fight. Cipher barely even has to move as he uses the group to fight against each other. It’s brutal as well. They don’t even hold back. Just pure chaos.

5. Marie heals Godolkin. It turns out that the theory all along was correct. Cipher, or the person we believed to be Cipher, isn’t him. Cipher was being controlled; it was Godolkin all along.

6. Godolkin barely even hesitates to kill his first victim after being healed. The guy who’s following Sam around is outside as Goldolkin walks outside. Once Godolkin realizes the other guy has a terrible power, he forces him to kill himself as he walks through the campus, asking, “Who’s next?”

What I Disliked

Nothing to report this week.

Favorite Moment

As Marie attempts to enter the seminar section of the campus to confront Cipher, the group shows up to stop her. Annabeth explains her visions, also including that she had similar visions before her parents died. Despite the fact that Marie is aware of how it ends, she wants to proceed. Jordan tries to stop her until Marie lifts them all in the air. She even asks if Cate will make them go away if she heals her. Cate actually refuses, as she said she’d never use her powers on the group. What a moment this was.

Standout Character

A number of characters stood out in a major way this episode. Polarity is the one who edged it for me. The moment he was healed by Marie, it felt like the gloves were off. He barely even hesitated to initiate the fight against Cipher by slinging weights off him. He was ready, and he looked ready, which is what I’ve wanted to see all season.

Verdict

Episode 7 delivered. It’s got me so intrigued about what the finale is going to bring. Everything has come full circle. Questions have been answered. The fight begins. It looks like the group is in for the fight of their lives. It’s going to be intriguing to see how this will tie into The Boys as we move closer to the ultimate weapon against Homelander.
