X-Men ’97 “Strange Land, Savage Heart” Review

Season 2 Episode 7 – “The X-Men travel to the Savage Land and are surprised to find a familiar face.”

What I Liked

1. The episode begins with a flashback to the battle of Genosha, where we see Colossus and Magik saving civilians and fighting the Sentinels. Colossus sees his sister Magik get killed by a Sentinel, which absolutely destroys Colossus’s heart. While heartbreaking, it was nice to see these two on Genosha.

2. There is a really cool scene when the X-jet is flying over the Savage Lands, and some surface-to-air missiles are fired at the jet. Beast tries to dodge the missiles but immediately fails; Bishop gets sucked out of the jet with a parachute, quickly following behind him, but Polaris jumps out of the jet after him and saves him just in time.

3. Nightcrawler agrees to have a trial to save his half-brother Creed. With Colossus overseeing the trial, both Exodus and Nightcrawler make their points that Creed will not stand a fair trial due to the jury being full of Mutants. He also does not help himself with the answers he provides.

4. Cable and his team find Apocalypse… dead with a playing card next to him…He’s coming. Gambit as the death horseman.

What I Disliked

Nothing to report.

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would be when Polaris and Bishop take down the tower so that the X-Men can get their powers back, and Exodus begins to attack Colossus. The X-Men begin to fight the mutants that are on Exodus’s side, while Nightcrawler and Exodus begin to have a sword fight.

Standout Character

It was between Colossus and Nightcrawler, but ultimately I have to give this to Nightcrawler. Not only did he go to bat for his half-brother, but he also made the decision to leave him in the middle of a snowstorm.
