Hawkeye “Never Meet Your Heroes” Review

Season 1 Episode 1 “Archer Kate Bishop lands in the middle of a criminal conspiracy, forcing Hawkeye out of retirement.”

What I Liked?

1. The episode begins with a nice little flashback to 2012 when we see a young Kate that is having a nice time with her parents when the events of Avengers 1 happen. We get to see the Battle of New York from Kates’s perspective and the devastation it caused her. We see that Hawkeye actually saved her from that scene where he jumps from the roof. This was Kates’s first introduction to Clint.

2. Fast forward to the present day when Kate is trying to win a bet by using her archer skills to ring a giant bell. Which technically she does and wins the bet but it goes wrong and the bell breaks the entire building. I really liked this cause it gave the viewers a subtle tease of what is to come with Kate.

3. We get to see Clint, now sporting some hearing-aids watching a play focused on the Battle of New York. While watching the play, you can truly tell that Clint is still hurting from the loss of Natasha back when Thanos attacked. You can almost feel the pain through the screen.

4. We get to see Kate use her abilities to sneak around a secret auction, where they are selling some major items including the Ronin sword which was recovered from the wreckage of the Avengers Compound. Not only are they selling the Ronin sword, but also the suit as well.

What I Disliked?

Favorite Moment

My favorite moment would definitely be Kate donning the insanely nice-looking Ronin suit for the first time. Kate being able to use that as well as her abilities to fight, sneak, and get around the bad guys was amazing. She did a lot of damage with bottles of wine and that’s even before she got the sword and bow.

Standout Character

The standout character would definitely be Kate. She was amazing from the moment she entered the episode. I really enjoyed her scenes, even the badass scenes, and she had some comical scenes as well. Excited to see more of Kate.

The Verdict

An absolutely amazing introduction to the Hawkeye series. Everything about this first episode was amazing and set the tone for the series going forward. The action and story were perfect. Hailee Steinfeld is the most perfect casting for Kate Bishop.
