What I Liked

1. Mark is at a comic convention when he meets up with an artist from an animated series in his world. They speak about how the animation takes a long time to edit. The artist mentions that they cut corners instead by doing certain things like cutting to the back of someone’s head, not showing their mouth when talking, etc. I loved that this was a sort of nod to how people reacted to the second half of the season of Invincible being delayed etc.

2. I also like how Rex is back out in the field being a superhero again. Even though the episode does show that Rex is at one point shaking in the fight. Rex stands his ground to fight the toughest villain there while he tells Invincible to handle the other guys. I like how it shows Rex is not magically perfect again.

3. Mark and Anissa get into a fight, with Anissa being a long stronger, faster, and more dangerous than Mark. Anissa beats down Mark badly to the point where he’s a bloody mess. I do like how each member of the Viltrumites that arrives on Earth warns Mark of what is to come, and they promise that each one that arrives will be more powerful.

4. Allen the Alien is flying through space when he gets into an altercation with Anissa who is shocked that Allen has made her bleed. This just shows how much stronger Allen has gotten since the last time he was in a fight with a Viltrumite.

What I Disliked

While I do get that there is an overall story to Invincible, everyone has a story but having a story that focuses on two people who are not superheroes from Mark’s college is boring. It is a nice touch seeing people deal with PTSD from an attack but it’s just not needed in this story, if they want to do a PTSD story, focus on Rex.

Favorite Moment

Mark gets a night off from being a superhero to go on a date with Amber, while on said date he’s interrupted by a Viltrumite. Anissa arrives and threatens Amber. While the two are talking, Mark has to rescue a ship being attacked by a Kaiju. While Mark struggles to defeat it, Anissa flies straight through the mouth of it, killing it.

Standout Character

Honestly, this was a struggle for this episode but if I were to choose someone to get the standout character it would be Anissa. She was badass, powerful, and dangerous.

Verdict

Honestly, this episode did focus on Mark, his relationship with Amber, and the threat of more Viltrumites coming to Earth as we saw with the arrival of Anissa. The episode was action-packed and bloody but had moments where the episode would slip away with the story surrounding William and his boyfriend.
