Deadpool has been one of Marvel’s most popular characters for over a decade, from comics to movies. Yet, the only good Deadpool game was released back in 2013. In the years since, the character has broken box office records, dominated social media, and shown up in different games such as Midnight Suns and Fortnite.
One thing is missing. A modern, standalone Deadpool game that lives up to the chaotic behavior that is Deadpool. Now is the right time for this to happen.
There was a Deadpool VR experience. This was more of a short novelty than a full game. While the VR obviously let players step foot into Deadpool’s shoes and cut loose in a virtual environment, it doesn’t offer the breadth of narrative, character depth, or refined combat system that today’s players expect.

While the 2013 video game captured the voice and attitude of the character perfectly, the irreverent humor, self-aware jokes, and meta commentary were all there, but the combat and level design felt repetitive, it’s systems shallow, and it lacked the polish modern audiences expect.
The next Deadpool game should follow suit, be made by Insomniac Games, and be involved within the Wolverine universe. If we look at the games from those that involve Spider-Man games, we see that it has tight, satisfying combat, a rich narrative emotional weight, open-world freedom with meaningful activities, and a polished presentation that feels cinematic without losing gameplay features.
The groundwork is there already, and the audience is bigger than ever. The technology exists to finally do Deadpool justice. If developers take inspiration from the likes of Spider-Man and Wolverine, using modern open-world and action design to match Deadpool’s irreverent spirit, the next Deadpool game could be something legendary.
