Chains can be broken. Empires can be shattered.
The first official teaser trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord has officially been released ahead of the two-episode premiere.
The teaser gave fans a glimpse of the world of Janix and the machinations of the underworld playing out in the beginning of the Empire’s reign and Emperor Palpatine’s control of the galaxy.
Premiering on Disney+ on April 6, 2026, with two episodes per week leading to a finale episode on Star Wars Day, which is May the 4th.
Picking up after the events of The Clone Wars, the series finds Maul plotting to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet that is untouched by the Empire. There, he crosses paths with a disillusioned young Jedi Padawan who may just be the apprentice he is seeking to aid him in his relentless pursuit for revenge.
The voice cast is led by Star Wars icon Sam Witwer, who has lent his voice to Maul in The Clone Wars, Rebels, and beyond. He will be voicing Maul once again. Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, recent Golden Globe winner and Oscar nominee, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Two-Botts. The latter duo will also be featured in a Marvel Comics prequel series set on Janix beginning this March.
I, for one, can not wait to see the return of Maul and Sam Witwer’s performance as this iconic Star Wars character once again. Sam Witwer has said this series will explore how Maul feels about the destruction of the Jedi Order, his life-long enemy. Witwer compared this to how the Joker lives on after the death of Batman.
