Supergirl “Immortal Kombat” Review

Season 5 Episode 19 “Supergirl realises that in order to stop Lex and Leviathan, she must work with Lena; Nia struggles with what her dreams are trying to tell her; Brainy realises there is only one way to stop Lex.”

What I Liked

1. Well, Lex finally gets his wish as he meets Leviathan at the very start of the episode as they begin their plan to take down Supergirl.

2. We finally see Lena work alongside Cara and the rest of the team! Nice to see them all back together again. Fingers crossed Brainy can come back next!

3. Alex in a suit! What an amazing start. After being let go from the DEO Alex has struggled with being one of the team as she has felt she isn’t an asset without the DEO. Hopefully now she feels a sense of belonging.

4. Brainiac is completely torn about helping Lex, and summons one of the other “Brainiacs” for advice. Instead of uploading the mortality code, he wants to use a specific technique to stop them, and it’s only a technique his ancestor used, the big, bad Brainiac.

5. Cara standing up to Lena was quite an intense moment. It’s something we’ve waited to see for quite a while. We all knew that Cara didn’t tell Lena her secret to protect her but what Lena did following that was brutal. It was never mentioned and I was starting to think Cara had just forgiven her. It’s nice to see her remind Lena that all she tried to do was protect her, while all Lena tried to do back was hurt her. Very powerful scene and you truly do see the guilt in Lena’s eyes.

6. Another suit brought into this episode as we see the Anti Kryptonite suit for Cara as she stands against the Element benders as they attack with Kryptonite. Another breathtaking scene. A blast from Cara’s suit looked like it killed them, turning them to dust. But within mere seconds the Element benders reappeared, showing they just may be immortal.

7. We see a vulnerable side to Eve as she opens up to Cara about how she is only working alongside Lex to protect her mother. She then goes on to tell Cara Leviathans plans to kill millions of innocent people in the Unity Festival.

8. Cara enters into the Unity festival to try and save everyone by telling them to leave their simulation. After Leviathan realizes this they ask Andrea to kill supergirl or they will kill her father. Lucky for Cara she has Lena standing by her side, as she manages to talk Andrea down we see Cara convince those in the Unity Festival to end their simulation.

9. As brainy defies Lex’s orders and single-handedly makes his attempt to take down Leviathan we see him fighting for his life as he is incapacitated due to Leviathans force field. Brainy, however, manages to successfully take down Leviathan with his world trapping device, trapping Leviathan inside. Unfortunately, Lex figures out what Brainy has done, and manages to get there before Brainy can get rid of Leviathan once and for all. Leviathan is now in Lex’s hands, which can’t be good. Fortunately for us, we then see Cara and Lena team together and prepare to take down Lex. However with Brainy still alone and fighting for his life will he make it? This could be all in dreamers hands.

What I Disliked

01. J’onn J’onzz, yet again an opportunity missed to remind us viewers what J’onn can do! As he comes to stand against Roma Con, J’onn is immediately injured and taken out of the fight. Very disappointing considering he is supposed to be one of the most powerful members of the team. Don’t get me wrong I expect any of them to be defeated but even a little fight back would’ve sufficed.

Favourite Moment

As brainy defies Lex’s orders and single-handedly makes his attempt to take down Leviathon we see him fighting for his life as he is incapacitated due to Leviathans force field. Brainy, however, manages to successfully take down Leviathon with his world trapping device, trapping Leviathan inside. Unfortunately, Lex figures out what Brainy has done, and manages to get there before Brainy can get rid of Leviathan once and for all. Leviathan is now in Lex’s hands.

Standout Character

Standout character has to go to Brainy. He has had a tough time this season with all his friends turning against him, but he certainly redeemed himself. Let’s face it, he managed to save everyone and take down Leviathan.

Verdict

Perfect ending to this season. One amazing moment after another. I struggled to take my eyes away from the screen!
