The Boys “Dirty Business” Review

Season 4 Episode 6 – Vernon Correctional Services provides compassionate rehabilitation to those in our care to prepare them for successful community reentry. At Vernon, it’s not about custody. It’s about family.

What I Liked

1. The Web Weaver suit is legit nice. The spin on Spider-Man is a little weird but I’ll roll with it. Hughie walking out to the gang first wearing the suit who are trying to contain their laughter was hilarious.

2. Sage offered up an interesting story to Victoria. She managed to cure cancer in 3 days to save her Grandma only for the medical experts to laugh her out of the building. I did wonder why Sage never went to these lengths considering she’s superhuman intelligent but she did a solid job in explaining why she no longer bothers.

3. I wasn’t expecting MM to shoot Sage in the head when they go looking for Hughie. MM collapses afterwards and we find out later on in the end episode that he had a panic attack here. Sage does survive the shot but I’m glad to see that MM didn’t hesitate to fire the shot when needed.

4. Kimiko attempts to torture Tek Knight but he gets off on it so they go down another route. They access his bank accounts and transfer large amounts of money to charities. His butler then steps in and kills him anyway. Kimiko had way too much fun hitting the enter button to initiate the transfer.

What I Disliked

1. I don’t understand why every Supe has to be weird. It makes zero sense as it feels like everyone we stumble across is sadistic. Tek Knight is the next Supe to have a BDSM basement and it’s starting to wear thin. I don’t mind the Supe’s that are psychotic but it’s starting to feel like the execs are pushing the boundaries too far and it’s no longer enjoyable.

2. This Butcher story is boring. We’re 6 episodes in, no further forward with the hallucinations, he’s hard with the team, and there’s nothing on his brain turning to mush – it feels wasted. He does conclude at the end that he’s hallucinating everything, it didn’t need to take 6 episodes for that to happen. More so we know the virus he wanted made will wipe out every single Supe on the planet. Butcher’s development has been drastically slow this season. Still, though, he’s not worse than Frenchie so that’s something.

3. Hughie getting effectively tied up and sexualized for a large portion of the episode wasn’t it.

4. Homelander being breastfed again, this time by Firecracker. Honestly. This has already played out before and it’s becoming predictable now.

Favorite Moment

A-Train saving MM after he collapsed was a nice touch. I do wish they’d hurry up with the A-Train turn. It’s been lingering for quite a while now so I’m eager to finally see the betrayal (if it happens).

Standout Character

There wasn’t a single character that stood out in this episode. I usually always provide this to a character but I can’t do that in this episode so for the first time in the 100’s of reviews I have done – I am leaving this out.

Verdict

It is perhaps the worst episode of the entire series. It felt slow, and over the top but not in the usual creative way, the action was poor and the general feel of the story’s flow is not proceeding as it usually does – it’s slow and not entertaining. I hope the next 2 episodes begin picking up with greater pace because it needs it.
