What I Liked

Soldier Boy’s conversation with Firecracker about how ridiculous this Homelander and the Second Coming is makes so much sense. I thought it was hilarious when he explained that if Homelander is God, then what does that make him? He’s got a point…

1. The conflict within Firecracker is real. On The Truthbomb show, her lines are changed to rat out the church she practically grew up in. She confirmed to the world it’s a Starlight infestation, referring to the Reverend as a paedophile. I wasn’t expecting Firecracker to go through with the statements; she did.

    2. The toilet scene is pure Final Destination vibes. Adam is killed on the toilet after he and Black Noir have a connecting moment in the theatre. Deep’s the man behind this particular death, it’s as brutal as you can imagine.

    3. I never thought I’d see MM have an emotional conversation with Butcher, but we certainly got that this episode. MM confirms to Butcher that he’s finding this whole thing easier because he has nothing left to fight for. He mentions that if he has any hope of seeing his daughter, he suddenly cares again. It’s an intriguing point from MM, even Butcher actually offering a shoulder. I liked this scene. It’s not often we get small, powerful moments like this.

    4. Hughie saves Terror from being poisoned by chocolate after Frenchie leaves it in the bin. It causes a small connection between Butcher and Hughie, one that we haven’t seen in a long time. From the previous point, this feeling continues.

    5. Sage’s plans are revealed. She wants the world to go to war just so she can sit in a bunker and read, on her own. That’s honestly the most sadistic thing I’ve ever heard. She literally wants the world to burn just so she has peace and quiet. I do like the fact that Homelander’s closest comrades are plotting against him.

    6. Jared Padalecki is now in the show as Mister Marathon. We see him reunited with Jensen Ackles as the pair ran multiple seasons of Supernatural. It’s also very interesting that A-Train replaced Mister Marathon simply because he lost one race. It shows how brutal The Seven is to remain there.

Mister Marathon and Malchemical manage to work together to knock out Homelander. It took me a minute to realise Misha Collins is Malchemical, meaning it’s a triple Supernatural reunion. After Homelander is knocked, Soldier Boy goes on the defensive for this. Malchemical is killed by Soldier Boy, so Mister Marathon begins chasing Soldier Boy, resulting in running through everyone. What a weird scene this is. I was waiting for the show to go over the top.

Well, Mister Marathon has both of his feet ripped clean off by Soldier Boy before Homelander curb stomps him. Then, after that, Soldier Boy admits to Homelander that he’s been sleeping with Firecracker. Well, it was nice to have Jared and Misha back for a single episode…

    What I Disliked

Nothing major to report this week.

    Favorite Moment

Homelander kills Firecracker after he learns what she’s been doing with Soldier Boy. The death was weirdly slow but quick at the same time. He pushes her head into an eagle statue. The subtle eye movements afterwards were eerie. I wasn’t expecting that at all. I added this as my favourite moment due to the sheer impact of it.

    Standout Character

The show centred itself around a few characters. Firecracker, Black Noir, Sage, Terror and others. For me, the character that stood out the most here was actually Homelander. He curb-stomped Mister Marathon and slammed Firecracker’s head into the wing of an eagle with little hesitation.

    Verdict

Honestly, this is the weakest episode of the season so far, yet it’s still brilliant. It shows how fantastic this season has been thus far. We all know the typical formula when it comes to a standard Boys episode. Gory action, a small heartfelt moment, a shocking death, an over-the-top moment and a whole lot of kissing up to Homelander. I think the ONLY thing that lets the episode down was that, besides the moment at the end, it felt like a filler episode.
