What I Liked

1. It’s taken a while to get to the first like on the list. It comes as Kimiko, MM, and Butcher kidnap Goldie in an attempt to get a message out to Bombsight. As they kidnap her from the retirement facility, other older Supes try to save her. This fight sequence is hilarious. I love how effortless Butcher looked throughout the fight.

2. Soldier Boy punches Homelander after he sees the scene of Homelander and THAT scene with Stormfront. You know, the stump. Soldier Boy looks visibly angry over this. However, what’s great here is that Homelander begins to learn that Sage is trying to separate them. I am glad she’s finally been outed.

3. Sage turns her attention to The Boys. She explains to them that she knows how to contact Bombsight. She also explains that they can’t trust her, but they will. Her first evidence regarding trust does exist because she mentions she could’ve killed them, knowing Hughie and Starlight are on their way to plant the bomb. It’ll not be enjoyable seeing someone so close to Homelander betray him.

4. “Summers only beautiful, when you know winters coming”. A beautiful quote from Goldie. She explains the reason why Bombsight has the V1 is that he wanted him and Goldie to be together forever. It’s adorable. Goldie refused to take it because she found living forever to be torturous. It makes sense in all honesty.

5. We finally see Oh Father’s powers in full effect as he goes toe to toe with Starlight. She barely lasts a second before being dropped. If it wasn’t for Hughie stepping in to threaten him with the virus, I do fear for Starlight; she looked extremely weak here.

6. I never thought I’d see the day Homelander shows compassion. After The Legend gives a huge pep talk to Homelander, you fully expect The Legend to be killed off spectacularly. Homelander instead decides to let him go. Never did I ever think I’d see this happen. It’s an underestimated moment.

7. Bombsight fights against the group after showing up to save Goldie. Interestingly enough, he brings the V1 with him. He very nearly kills Kimiko until Goldie protects her with a shield. Then Soldier Boy turns up, and things change…

8. Homelander takes the V1. I genuinely have no idea how they even stop him at this point. I feel completely terrified of what Homelander will now become.

What I Disliked

We see Deep on the beach receiving help, covered in oil, with fish dead all around him. We later learn that Noir went and punched a hole in the pipe, causing this. He killed 1.4 billion fish. He admits this in the podcast room. The reason why I dislike this is simply that it’s done off-camera. It feels significant, but it was completely brushed over. Deep then actually kills Noir for it. I feel like this version of Noir has been a completely wasted character.

Favorite Moment

Bombsight vs Soldier Boy now. It’s entertaining as hell to see Soldier Boy properly meet his match in a fight. The sequence here is so beyond intense, but I absolutely loved it. What a fight. The two have a touching moment after they finish fighting, which adds a lot of weight to the scene. In agreement for the V1, Soldier Boy takes away Bombsight’s powers and immortality.

Standout Character

Homelander, by a million miles. There was so much to get behind when it comes to his character. He let The Legend walk away; he didn’t even bother with Bombsight. He had his goals set, and he went for it. At the end, when his laser vision felt more powerful than we’ve ever seen, it was genuinely terrifying. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Verdict

The Boys continues to deliver in its final season. There was a small section of the episode I disliked, but overall, it was great, as always. I feel like with 2 episodes to go, the show is doing a fantastic job in moving the story along, which is what we need. After 5 seasons, we need a conclusion that will fit this incredible journey we’ve been on. Episode 6 feels like it’s heading into that conclusion.
