The Flash “The Speed of Thought” Review

Season 7 Episode 2 – When Barry suddenly gains the power of speed thinking, he attempts to use his new gift to save Iris; while Barry is thrilled with his new power, Cisco is hesitant to trust it; Eva must face a shattering truth.

What I Liked

1. The gang say their final goodbye to the line of wells. As Cisco returns he hangs up Nash’s belt and the scene altogether was so emotional.

2. Barry’s new ability he describes as “super speed thinking” and he claims to now know how to open a portal into the mirror world.

3. “I called in a bit of extra muscle” and there announces our return of Caitlin/Killer frost. A fight emerges between Caitlin and Eva, although it was short-lived I loved seeing Frost back in action.

4. Barry exposes the footage of Eva dying from the particular accelerator. Now the world knows the truth, the team can now open a portal without her realising, or so Barry suggests.

5. A tense scene as Cisco finds out Barry only intends to save Iris as he refers to Singh and Camilla as “expendable”. This leads the team to try and give Barry his emotions back, causing Caitlin to inject herself with velocity X giving her super speed.

6. As Barry takes down his own team, he reopens the portal, and although she resists he brings Iris back, despite her wanting him to take Camilla and Singh. As Iris returns through the portal, she seems to be struggling to breathe and having a seizure on the floor, but Barry is left in trouble when he realises the people that could help her, are unconscious.

7. A flashback scene at the end revisits how Reverse Flash retained his identity. Although I’m not entirely sure what just happened in this scene, it was intriguing.

What I Disliked

It came close to not having a dislike on here because it was a great episode but did they have to basically make Barry a bad guy AGAIN. We’ve seen this before, not too long ago, I didn’t wanna see it again, especially not two episodes into the season.

I know he wasn’t the “bad guy” as such, but falling out with his team again – it’s just something we have seen one too many times at this point.

Favourite Moment

Barry is now able to see how every scenario he is in turns out, as Cisco prepares to write his theories down on a board, Barry reads them out before Cisco has even written them. This scene also brought back to us the good old Cisco humour which we love to see!

Standout Character

I’m going to give this weeks standout to Cisco, I’ve been looking forward to him returning to our screens and while I wasn’t sure what route this was going to go down after he gave up his powers, it was lovely to see him back the way he was at the very start of this series, funny and witty the Cisco we all know and love!

Verdict

This was a great episode, we had the return from both Cisco and Caitlin. Also, Iris returning to reality there at the end. I’m quite interested to know how this is going to play out now that she’s back.
