“The World Ends In Fire” Issue 3 Comic Review

This is a comic that we’ve loved more and more with each issue. We rated the first issue a 9.2, the second 9.4 and now we have the 3rd out of 4 possible issues for this fantastic comic run.

You can read the first review for issue 1 by clicking here and clicking here for the second issue.

Story – 9.4/10

This comic gives us some backstory for 84 giving further depth to the entire story in general which is something you really don’t see often with indie comics. One of the things I particularly liked was the fact the backstory linked into the current time so it made sense, more so how she was trained and able to fight.

Of course, the clock is still ticking for the world to end so the group are desperately finding the artifacts to stop it. They now have to hunt for a jewel that was seen in the backstory for 84. As they get to Lincoln, a package shows up for Asterisk who opens it up without even questioning it which is hilarious. They all get sucked into it and end up trapped whilst 84 is left to fend for herself.

The story is centred around 84 mainly and she stands out as a fantastic character. I’ll go into more detail into the characters section but I honestly really enjoyed the story here. The writers should be proud of themselves for this world that they’ve built because it’s unique.

Synopsis

Graphics – 10/10

I won’t go further into detail from what’s already been said previously. In both reviews prior to this we have rated the graphics 10/10 and this continues with this issue. The graphics are beautiful.

I love the vibe of the art style, I think it’s in a world of it’s own, especially color-wise. They’ve chosen the correct colors which make each comic panel and each scene pop out at me. Overall, the art style continues to impress me.

Entertainment – 9.5/10

I was incredibly entertained, that goes without question. I’ve been immersed into this world since the first issue and this just continues to get more and more as the comic run goes on. I am a bit sad that the next issue is the last one available, I haven’t read it yet – but I am excited and that’s what this comic has done for me. It’s not often I get excited for comics as I’m not a hardcore reader like Phil but I love this series.

Time – 10/10

This comic is definitely worth the time. All in all, I spent around 15 minutes on this. It took me 5 minutes to read through the strips to enjoy the story, I then went back to look at all of the artwork to truly take in the experience.

It’s definitely worth the time and even more so considering this comic is actually free to read and you only have to pay for the PDF document.

Characters – 8.5/10

The characters are great, it’s nothing we haven’t already said. The only small issue I had with this comic was we didn’t really get to see our heroes here. The comic was mainly centred around 84, her past and fighting The Shadow Bretherin. It’s not to say it wasn’t good because it absolutely was, I just wanted to see a bit more from our heroes without seeing them trapped in a box for the issue.

Besides that though, and it’s just a small complaint because 84 stole the show here. It was entertaining and she deserved the attention. I still love the fact we even got to see some of her childhood with the jewel and learning how to fight.

Honestly, I’m going to go out on a whim here and say this – I’d love to see this series be made into an animated show or even live-action. The potential is there with these characters and I’ve never said that about an indie comic before.

Verdict

This series continues to impress and gets better with each issue I read. A fulfilling story with a great layer of action and graphics. The World Ends In Fire deserves so much more love and I hope after the 4th issue, this isn’t the end of this unique, immersive story.
