TITANS “Titans” Review

Season 1 episode 1 “As Detective Dick Grayson fights crime both as a cop and a vigilante, a mysterious girl harboring a dark secret arrives in Detroit.”

What Was Good?

1. The episode starts off with Rachel in somewhat of a nightmare where she’s visiting the circus where Dick’s parents, The Flying Greysons died. Rachel wakes in Terror as her mother calms her down.

2. We move into Detroit where we see Dick working alone as a Detective for the Detroit P.D. He’s investigating someone for child abuse. He reads a police file then stares at a very hi-tech suit case.

3. The Robin suit for the show is incredible, one of my favorite hero suits in any TV show. Dick has some dialogue which I thought was impressive, it’s the “Fuck Batman” line, which I thought was needed because as we know Dick and Bruce aren’t getting along and he’s left Batman in the past.

4. Later in the episode we see a car crash in another country and someone wakes up with pink hair, it’s no other than Starfire, but something is wrong with her because people are shooting at her, it turns out she has no memory of anything, she heads back to a hotel where she fights someone that was tied up she then goes to a club where the boss shoots her which causes her powers to go off and incinerate everyone in the room.

5. At the end of the episode we get a scene in a tech store, a robbery is happening so a guard checks it out, he see’s a green tiger and it runs away into a forest, shape shifts back into human form to be Gar AKA Beast Boy.

What Was Bad?

1. Rachel is dealing with her inner demons and she’s obviously struggling and all her mother can do is pray and stick crosses on Rachel’s door?

2. Dick, Rachel & Starfire all get decent amount of screentime but we only get like 2 minutes of screen time for Beast Boy.

Holy Shit Moment(s)

1. The full introduction to Robin, we saw the introduction to Dick but Robin was a whole new level of badass. We see he use his gadgets and beat down 10 guys, like bone breaks the lot. We see how brutal Robin has became when he scraps someone’s cheek along broken glass then proceeds to kick the life out of him.

2. Rachel’s (Raven) side unleashes on a man that was keeping her hostage, it proceeds to enter his body and make him spew every drop of blood from his body.

The Verdict

Really solid first episode, great introductions to each character. The action and brutally of the show is incredible and I loved every minute of it.

Rating: 9/10
