Why I Want A Second Season Of Skeleton Crew

Star Wars gained a brand new story that hit Disney+ in December 2024. The show centred around a young group of children who stumble across a ship and end up accidentally exploring the galaxy. The show heavily involved pirates, a part of the Star Wars universe we haven’t seen much of before.

Jod’s ending was largely left open. He is still on At Attin after his entire plan falls apart. At Attin is now open with the New Republic intervening. In my opinion, there is much more to explore with the story moving forward. The New Republic arc could be very interesting as well as it adds room for political tension. After all, we know The New Republic isn’t always for the good. It wouldn’t surprise me if they attempted to claim jurisdiction of the planet. We could also have pirates exploit its weaknesses, especially as they’re aware of how much money is on that planet.

Skeleton Crew was a show I honestly couldn’t have cared less about when it was announced. I’m a Star Wars fan, so even if something doesn’t interest me, I’ll still give it a chance as I always do. I did the exact same thing with Skeleton Crew.

I remember as each episode went by, it got better and better. I loved the complete mystery that surrounded Jod. The fact that we got a pirate who’s a former Jedi and can comfortably wield a lightsaber had so much going for it. This is one of the prime reasons why I’d love a second season.

With a second season, the children will be slightly older, meaning they could even handle themselves better. You add that along with the experience they gained during their expedition across the galaxy, it means they’re not always relying on others to save them or sheer luck.

The heart of the first season wasn’t just about the adventure. It was about growth. We see these naive kids get really stuck in the thick of it. They have these false beliefs about what the galaxy is like. Yet they see the true dangers of it. They nearly die on several occasions. They come together as a team and work together. They’re completely different when they’re reunited with their parents at the end.

It’s set in the ‘Mandoverse’ timeline. The show’s timeline is set around 9 ABY. This is around the same time as Ahsoka, The Mandalorian, and The Book of Boba Fett. As Jod’s a former Jedi, there could be a solid crossover point somewhere along the road that allows Jod to go up against Din Djarin. This one’s unlikely due to Pedro Pascal’s schedule. However, it’s something I think could work well. Din Djarin is still a Bounty Hunter. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if there’s a bounty on Jod’s head after what he did during Skeleton Crew. Imagine if it were him or Boba going after him? Or Ahsoka learns about him, and she goes for him instead? It would be incredible.

The thing with Jod as well is that he’s not pure evil. He’s just a product of Order 66 and the trauma that comes with surviving such an event. He’s out to make a life for himself. His motives and plans are questionable, but I found myself feeling sorry for him. That doesn’t mean I still wouldn’t want to see Din Djarin show up and teach him a solid lesson for what he did to the kids.

If you haven’t watched Skeleton Crew, give it a chance. It’s a very good show. It isn’t perfect, but it’s definitely a fun, unique story for the Star Wars universe. After all, Star Wars is all about discovery, hope, and navigating through the unknown. Skeleton Crew offers all of that. A second season could take all of that and push it even further.
