Top 5 Comic Book Games We Can’t Wait For

The world of comic book gaming is becoming more popular due to the TV and movie counterparts doing so fantastically well and setting a precedent. Unfortunately, for the video game side, we don’t see these fly out as often as the movie side does.

However, that is changing. Slowly, but it’s changing. Here, I list my top 5 video games I am super excited about in order as well. I will explain under each one why I’m hyped for them as well.

1. Gotham Knights

Perhaps the game I am most excited for in terms of any universe, period. The game was announced back at DC FanDome in 2020 and was initially scheduled for a 2021 release, however, this has been pushed back to 2022. We got amazing gameplay footage, plus a trailer which I will link below. The game will feature 4 playable characters which are; Red Hood, Nightwing, Robin, and Batgirl. The game will also feature a drop-in coop mode as well.

It isn’t made by the same studio that makes the Arkham games, but I suspect WB Montreal will know exactly what they’re doing with the game and treat it with care. The pushback gave me a lot more confidence in the game as well. Usually, I feel deflated when a game’s pushed back, but I fully trust the developers to give us a memorable experience with this. The coop aspect is what has got me most excited about the game, plus playing as Red Hood.

2. Hogwarts Legacy

I have been begging for a game set in the Harry Potter universe since forever. I understand Harry Potter isn’t a comic book, but it’s a book nonetheless. The game was announced last year, and the same as Gotham Knights – it was set for a 2021 release but was pushed back to 2022. We don’t know a lot about the game as of yet. What we do know is that it’s set in the late 1800s, well before Harry Potter was around.

We have an inkling the game will be a fully open-world RPG experience, which will be absolutely exceptional, a game of the year contender if it’s done right. The mobile variant; Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mastery is actually an enjoyable experience plagued with microtransactions and time – so with a AAA fully-fledged version without the over-insertion of microtransactions, it will be amazing.

3. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

Jedi: Fallen Order 1 is one of my all-time favorite Star Wars games ever. Purely because of the semi-open-world aspects, plus the ability to beautifully customize a lightsaber did wonders for me. The story was a memorable experience as well. Unfortunately, as of right now we know nothing about the game, nor the plot, details, or even images of the game due to the game still in the early stages of development.

We do know the game has been greenlit for a sequel, and it came as no surprise to us considering the first game did amazing on the sales side, it was obvious EA was going to push for a sequel with Respawn Entertainment at the helm. I did write an article quite some time ago about my wishlist for the second game, and you can read more about it here. We will update you once we know more in the future.

4. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

An announced game that just feels like it’s always being delayed or pushed back. At this point, I can’t even fathom when I’ll get to pick up my controller and play a LEGO Star Wars game. It feels like an age since we last got to experience this. However, nonetheless, I still can’t wait for this. We’re going to experience everything with the Skywalkers from The Phantom Menace, all the way through.

There are going to be 100’s of playable characters on the back of it with their very own voice actors which I can understand to an extent why the game is constantly being pushed back. I do get it, and to be fair to the developers – they actually haven’t given us a confirmed release date either. The game was set for a 2021 release date, it may still be – but I find it highly unlikely we’ll see this come this year.

5. Spider-Man 2

This game hasn’t officially been announced to come, nor do we have any details – but due to Insomniac’s huge success with the franchise, we struggle to believe they aren’t working on a follow-up from the 2018 Spider-Man game as we speak. They have a remastered version, plus an incredible Miles Morales spin-off which launched alongside the PlayStation 5.

The reason why I’ve put this on the list is that I do know it will be coming, and both the games Insomniac has released have had me hooked for hours on end. They finally got the game series right, something other developers have struggled to do before. The suits, upgrades, swinging are all perfectly done and we honestly cannot wait for a follow-up to officially be announced. Like the other 2 games though, I doubt we will hear anything until a trailer drops. Insomniac has a massive habit of hugely surprising fans out of nowhere.

There we have it, there’s 5. There are others such as Injustice 3 which hasn’t been announced yet either but we can bet it’s coming. Either way, we hope the trend of comic book videogames continues and get much better as new engines and games are created.
